The main attractions here is a 3-kilometre (1.9 mile) rope way from a power house in Singara to Glenmorgan. The ropeway has an inclination of nearly 41° for 300 metres (980 ft) near a stretch called the German Point making the ascent and descent through it difficult. For the purpose of accommodating Electricity Board officials and tourists, rest houses are available at both ends of the ropeway. Glenmorgan is a village located at a distance of 25 kilometers from Ooty. This place is known for its tea estates which includes one of the oldest tea estates in the region known as the Glenmorgan tea estate. The power house is located near the Glenmorgan estate, for which a lake at the foot of the estate forms the fore bay.

The park is a 78.46 km protected area located in the western corner of the Nilgiris Plateau west of Ootacamund hill station in the northwest corner of Tamil Nadu state in the Western Ghats mountain range of South India. The park was created to protect its Keystone species, the Nilgiri Tahr. The park is characterised by Montane grasslands and shrublands interspersed with sholas in a high altitude area of high rainfall, near-freezing temperatures and high winds. It is home to an array of endangered wildlife, including Royal Bengal Tiger and Asian Elephant, but its main mammal attraction is the Nilgiri Tahr. The park was previously known as Nilgiri Tahr National Park.The park is a part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, India's first International Biosphere Reserve. As part of the Western Ghats, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1 July 2012.

Needle hill viewpoint is situated between Coodalore and Pykara.

Frog Hill Viewpoint It got its name as hill looks like a frog sitting on slopes of mountains.This view can be found while from Pykara to Coodalore.

Porthimund Lake this is mostly in a reserved forest and is largely off-limits to visitors. Shooting of the blockbuster Tamil movie Roja was done here.

Ooty Golf Course is located in Ooty town. The golf course is set at an altitude of 7600 feet. It is owned by the Gymkhana club in Ooty. The course extends over 193.56 acres and comprises 18 holes.

World famous horse race held in Ooty every year, which is here to entice all adventure lovers and help people get a glimpse of some of the best horses in the country. Starts 14th of April every year. The race course, which is situated in the Blue Mountains is the among the top racecourses in India. An event which spreads across 45 days witnesses around 500 horses on tracks, who are accompanied here by their caretakers. The Nilgiri Gold Cup Race, is the main event of the season.

Botanical Garden is one of the best tourist attraction places which attract the tourist from all over the world. The Garden is maintained by the Horticulture Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu and has a very wide variety of plants that include different types of roses, imported shrubs, rare flowering plants etc. An explicit collection of flowering tress, beautiful shrubs, and rare colored lilies are seen. The east hill of this garden also houses the tribes of Nilgiris, called Todas. Their tradition and culture is a matter of significance if you were interested in human civilization. The "Summer Festivals" is held each year during the month of May in the Botanical Garden. A flower show along with an exhibition of rare plant species is held every year in the third weekend of May at this garden.

The lake was artificially formed by John Sullivan, the founder of Ooty, in 1823-25 by damming the mountain streams flowing down Ooty valley. Lake stretches, in an irregular 'L' shape, for about 2.75 kms in length and varying distances in width(100m – 140m). The boats are available for hire from eight in the morning to six in the evening. Surrounded by lofty eucalyptus trees and shrubs the lake is a scenic delight to ones from the concrete jungles. During summer seasons, in May, boat races and boat pageantry are organized for two days at the lake which draws huge crowd. In recent years the lake and the boat house have become the hub of entertainment for the visitors.

Centenary Rose Park is situated in the heart of Ooty town and it is located less than a km from Charring Cross at Vijayanagaram, the rose garden is laid on 10 acres of land. This garden has been beautifully laid out in terraces with rose tunnels, pergolas and bowers with rose creepers. Today this garden has the largest collections of roses in the country, around 3600 varieties of roses like Hybrid Tea Roses, miniature rose, Floribunda, Ramblers, roses of unusual colors like black, green and many more varieties of roses that will captivate your senses. The Rose varieties planted in this park were assembled from different sources. The 'Nila Maadam' is located in a spot from where viewers can see the entire rose garden. This garden is maintained by Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department. It has also received the as "Garden of Excellence" by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) in 2006. So far, only 15 rose gardens in different parts of the world have been awarded the `garden of excellence' certificates and presented with plaques.

The Doddabetta Peak stands at an altitude of 2,623 meters. It is the highest point in the district, making it possibly the best vantage point around Ooty. It is merely 10kms from Ooty so you can simply grab your camera and head straight to the peak, and click amazing pictures of the valley below. On a clear day, which is honestly not that often, one can see far off areas, even the plains of Coimbatore and the flat highlands of Mysore. The Doddabetta Peak is said to be one of the highest peak in south India & famous tourist spot in India. Ooty is undisputedly one of the best hill stations of South India and anyone who visits it is so completely charmed by its beauty that he cherishes the desire to visit it over and over again. There is a "Telescope house" that is run by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation in the Doddabetta Peak. Any visitor is sure will be impressed after a visit to this highest peak of the Nilgiris.

Pykara is the name of a village,river and reservoir located 21 km from Ooty on Ooty-Mysore road.The placid lake of Pykara, amid the lush green valleys is a lovely getaway from Ooty. Here, a calm lake is surrounded by forests. There is a forest rest House at Pykara. A boat house by the Pykara falls and Dam is added attractions to the tourists. The major attraction of this place is the boathouse, with restaurant and a rest house to provide you with ultimate comfort. It is a clean and scenic lake in between the hills.

It is located 28 kilometers from Ooty. The lake is surrounded by a rolling landscape with blooming flowers like magnolias, orchids and rhododendrons. One can traverse beside the lake through winding paths around the lake and by visiting the lake can also engage themselves in Trout fishing. A trout hatchery is established near the lake, from where visitoras can get fishing rods and other fishing accessories required for trout fishing. The lake is also used by tourists as a camp site wherein they pitch tents near the lake. Other tourist activities in the area include rafting across the lake and trekking the nearby hilly regions like Upper Bhavani where there are thick forests and untouched wild habitats.

Emerald lake is a wonderful lake in the upper plateau region of the Nilgiri hills. It is a part of the silent valley and which is a best picnic place of the region. The site of the lake is wonderful and one would definitely love being at that place. The chirping birds and ducks and other swimming creatures add beauty to the place and the sun set and sun rise is also spectacular here.The lake is famous for its different varieties of fishes in the lake. The lake is surrounded by tea plantations where visitors can buy tea products. The Red Hill Nature Resort is an accommodation facility for visitors adjoining the lake. The facility is housed in a building constructed in the late 1800s. The resort is surrounded by tea plantations.

It is the most renowned shooting spot situated on the Mysore road in ooty.It is famously called as The Sixth Mile and The Ninth Mile and also as Shooting Medu.The former is six miles from ooty and the later is nine miles from ooty.Its green & lengthy shooting spot which is surrounded by forest.

Museums & Art Galleries

A wax museum that houses life-size look-alike wax statues of personalities of Indian history, culture and heritage housed in a 142-year-old bungalow.Located in the Ooty-Coonoor road.

The Tribal Museum is part of the campus of Tribal Research Centre which is in Muthorai Palada (10 km from Ooty town). It is home to rare artifacts and photographs of tribal groups of Tamil Nadu as well as Andaman and Nicobar Islands and anthropological and archaeological primitive human culture and heritage. The Tribal Museum also displays houses belongs to Toda, Kota, Paniya, Kurumba and Kanikarans

The Government Museum, Mysore Road, Udhagamandalam has items of tribal objects, districts ecological details and representative sculptural arts and crafts of Tamil Nadu.

It is situated about 2 Kms, from Udhagamandalam in the main Mysore road. It has various collections of contemporary paintings and sculptures all over from India..

The Tea Museum in Ooty is a venue where a number of tea gardens and factories have been set up to cater to visitors and also provide a source of livelihood and income for the wide population of people in Ooty by working in the tea factory. This factory is known to produce tea of varied quality and type and is sold to major International markets as well as local tea industries. Monuments

John Sullivan started building Stonehouse in 1822. Stone House was the first bungalow constructed in Ooty. It was built by John Sullivan and was called Kal Bangala by the tribals (Kal means stone in Tamil). Today, it is the official residence of the Principal of the Government Arts College, Ooty. The tree in front of the bungalow is famously known as the Sullivan's oak.

Built by the British in 1908 and was initially operated by the Madras Railway. The railway still relies on its fleet of steam locomotives .In July 2005, UNESCO added the Nilgiri Mountain Railway as an extension to the World Heritage Site of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, the site then became known as "Mountain Railways of India". The 'Nilgiri Passenger' train covers a distance of 26 km travels through 208 curves, 16 tunnels, and 250 bridges.The uphill journey takes around 4.8 hours, and the downhill journey takes 3.6 hours. It has the steepest track in Asia with a maximum gradient of 8.33% and it is a Metre gauge line. Between Mettupalayam and Coonoor the line uses the Abt rack and pinion system to climb the steep gradient.

Government House -Raj Bhavan is situated on a ridge of the Western Slopes of Doddabetta on the outskirts of the South Eastern Quarter of Ooty. Before Ooty became the virtual summer capital of the state, it was visited periodically, by the Governors of Madras for a few months to -make a good escape from the hot sultry weather of Madras.Built in 1877 by the Duke of Buckingham when he was the Governor of Madras, Government House, Raj Bhavan today, is used only occasionally during the Governor of TamilNadu's visit to ooty. A fine ballroom added by Sir Arthur Havelock in 1900 and in 1904 the entire building was electrified. The well-kept lawn and the beautiful gardens is the residence of the Governor for most of the summer months of April, May and June. Portraits of Governor and their ladies, of Queen Victoria, George V, George Marry, the Duke of Buckingham and Chandos and many others decorate the walls of the house.

Places of Worship

St. Stephen's Church is situated in Ooty on the road that leads to Mysore. This is considered as one of the oldest churches in the Nilgiris district and dates back to the 19th Century. Its foundation stone was laid on 23rd April, 1829 ensuring that this date coincides with the birthday of King George IV and John James Underwood was assigned as the Chief Architect of this Church. St. Stephen's Church constructed primarily from wood that was brought from the Srirangapatnam Lal Bagh Palace of Tipu Sultan after his defeat in the Battle of Srirangapatnam.

St. Thomas Church is one of those Churches in Ooty that is a must visit in your itinerary as it offers a stunning view of the Ooty Lake and homes the famous memorial of St. Thomas which is also known as the tallest memorial in Ooty. It also holds the grave of William Patrick Adam, who was a former governor of Madras and who passed away in 1881 in Ooty where he was buried.

Elk Hill Murugan Temple is situated on Elk hill, which is one of the picturesque hills located at Ooty in Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu. This temple is dedicated to Lord Muruga. Devotees throng this temple during the months of January and February for the Thaipusam festival. They carry with them brass vessels filled with milk, which is meant to be offered to the lord. Some of them also carry the ,kavadi, (palanquins), which is decorated with flowers, peacock feathers and brass bells.

One of popular pilgrim places to visit in Ooty is the Nasiyan Jain temple, located on the Prithvi Raj Road. The temple is dedicated to the first Jain Trithankara, Rishabhdeoji. Though the construction of the temple began in the year 1864, it was opened for public only in the year 1895. This temple is revered most by the Digamber sect of Jains and is gaining immense popularity among the followers of other sects as well.

Wallajah Mosque (Big Mosque) is placed in widespread grounds, being used as a highly liked place for religious and cultural function and activities. On Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramzan) and Bakrid Days, there witnesses a huge number of global crowd in the mosque premise. A huge number of Muslim devotees throng to this Big Mosque to offer prayers.
